A successful day with my first throw over 40 meters as a masters athlete

Geneva, OH – After two out of state competitions, I was back at the Spire Academy, a venue I was familiar with from earlier in the year. This was a fun meet where only the jumps and throws were contested. I started the day trying to make sure the high jump success in Michigan wasn’t a fluke. I was able to clear 4’7″ / 1.40M, not quite what I did there, but close. After high jump I moved over to long jump. My long jump expectations will never be too great, but it was nice to get a slight increase in distance from the one time I did the event earlier this year. The mark was a humble 11’5 1/4″ / 3.49M.

The highlight of my day, and season, would come in my main event. On my first throw in javelin, I went 133’9″ / 40.78M. It had been a goal from the moment I learned about masters track & field, to throw over 40M. Accomplishing this goal, felt amazing. I couldn’t help but think of where I had come from this year, from the first meet with three fouls, to getting over 40M and into the United States Top 10 in the M50-54 Age Group. The emotional ‘high’ from this is beyond words, I won’t be coming down from for a long time!

I want to congratulate all of the athletes who competed today and especially my Eastern Buckeye Track Club teammates, there were a lot of great performances and medals won.
