GENEVA, OH – For athletes living in the north that primarily do javelin, it can be a long wait after the season is over. This was my motivation to add different events this past year with the hopes of having a few things I could do indoors. I also had recruited an old college teammate who is a hurdler and figured if I was going to be there to support him, I might as well compete too. Today was the first indoor track meet I had competed in since 1995.

A few days prior to the meet when I was reviewing the entries I was excited to see another old teammate was registered. I can’t take credit for recruiting him, but it was awesome knowing I’d get to see him there. The picture above, brings back great memories and hopefully is a catalyst for many great new ones!

I signed up for two events and as luck would have it, both were at the same time. It created a bit of a logistical nightmare swapping shoes and jogging back and forth, but I made it work and the officials were patient. After clearing 4’5″ / 1.35M, I decided to retire from high jump. I wasn’t feeling that good and doubt I would have cleared the next progression. Back over at shot put I went 30’6 1/4″ / 9.30M on my last throw. I earned a gold medal in both events, but I note that I was actually silver in high jump to an athlete outside of our association.

There were a lot of great performances and so many people I would like to note, inevitably I’m going to miss someone and I apologize in advance. Congratulations to all of my Eastern Buckeye Track Club teammates, friends at Over the Hill Track Club and Dearborn Track Club, and my buddy Glen Betts who made the trip from Michigan. An extra special thank you to Mark Kujala Jr who allowed me to use his shot put when my brand new one was under weight and did not pass implement inspection. He saved my day!
